Sustainable Aquaculture Programme
Practical Skills, Enterprise Development & Climate Resilience

Programme Overview
Edwards Hamlet Regeneration Centre (EHRC), located in Bufula A, Jinja City, Uganda, is developing a Sustainable Aquaculture Programme as part of its integrated approach to regenerative agriculture, practical education and sustainable enterprise development.
The programme is designed to equip farmers, young people, women and emerging agripreneurs with practical knowledge and skills in environmentally responsible fish farming, aquaculture management and business development.
The project has already entered its initial development phase, with fish ponds excavated and trees planted around the site. These facilities will form the foundation of a demonstration and experiential learning environment, connecting sustainable aquaculture with agroforestry, water conservation and other regenerative farming practices.
Through practical training, knowledge exchange and future institutional partnerships, EHRC aims to strengthen food and nutrition security, create livelihood opportunities and support climate-resilient agricultural enterprises across the Busoga region and beyond.
Our Progress — From Vision to Reality
The Sustainable Aquaculture Programme has progressed from concept to physical development, marking an important milestone in Edwards Hamlet Regeneration Centre’s commitment to practical, community-centred learning.
The initial development phase has included the excavation of fish ponds and the planting of trees around the site, laying the foundation for an integrated aquaculture demonstration and training facility.
As the programme develops, EHRC plans to establish essential pond management systems, introduce sustainable fish production practices and develop practical training opportunities for farmers, young people, women and emerging agripreneurs.
The long-term goal is to create a living learning environment where sustainable aquaculture, environmental restoration and enterprise development work together to strengthen livelihoods and climate resilience.

Training & Skills Development.
Learning by Doing — From Pond Management to Sustainable Aquaculture Enterprise
The Sustainable Aquaculture Programme will adopt a practical, enterprise-oriented training approach that combines guided instruction, hands-on demonstrations and farm-based experiential learning.
Participants will develop skills across the aquaculture production cycle, from pond construction and preparation to fish stocking, feeding, water quality management, fish health, harvesting and marketing.
The training will also incorporate financial literacy, record keeping, enterprise planning and environmentally responsible production methods, enabling participants to develop sustainable and commercially viable aquaculture enterprises.
Through its demonstration facilities, EHRC aims to provide an inclusive learning environment for farmers, young people, women, students and emerging agripreneurs.
